Short answer. The most common SME e-invoice mistakes are wrong or missing buyer TINs and details, incorrect classification or tax codes, mishandled cancellations and credit notes, late submission and a mismatch between MyInvois and the ledger. A clean customer master, a pre-submission check and monthly reconciliation prevent most of them.

Wrong or missing buyer TIN and details
Customer details must match official records. Typos in names, registration numbers or TINs cause rejections or incorrect documents. Collect details from customers in writing and validate them.
Incorrect classification or tax codes
Each line needs a suitable classification and the right tax treatment. A generic default for all items hides errors. Build a maintained item master. See preparing your accounting records.
Cancellation and credit-note handling
Need this done for you? Axecta’s compliance health check team can handle this for your company. See the compliance health check service.
Mistakes happen, but the way to fix them is set by the guideline: a time window for cancellation in some cases, and credit or debit notes in others. Deleting a record in your software without following the process leaves you with a mismatch.
Delays in submission
Waiting to submit in batches, or forgetting to submit, can put you in breach of timing expectations. Build submission into the invoicing step.
Mismatch between MyInvois and ledger
If the validated documents and your books differ, your tax and audit position becomes harder to defend. Reconcile monthly.
A pre-submission checklist
- Buyer name, number and TIN checked.
- Items classified and tax treatment confirmed.
- Totals and tax calculated correctly.
- Date and document type correct.
- Reference to any original invoice for notes.
- Submission completed and result checked.
- Validated copy shared with the buyer.
How Axecta helps
Axecta’s accounting team sets up the data, tests submissions and reviews rejections with you. See also the SME e-invoice guide and exemption rules.
Mistakes tied to published rules
- Assuming exemption without checking. LHDN’s timeline states that turnover or revenue of less than RM3,000,000 is exempted, while other sources quote different levels. Use the official page and keep a memo.
- Missing your phase date. The same page lists dates from 1 August 2024 to 1 January 2026 by turnover band.
- Relying on relaxation that has ended. LHDN’s FAQ describes a six-month interim relaxation per phase; confirm the status for your phase.
- Ignoring the technical spec. The Specific Guideline and SDK define fields and codes.
A weekly review for the first three months
| Week | Review |
|---|---|
| 1 to 4 | All rejections and their causes |
| 5 to 8 | Credit notes and cancellations |
| 9 to 12 | Reconciliation of validated documents to the ledger |
Keep a runbook of each error type and fix.
